Mid-Conference Field Trip 1

Urban River Restoration – The Olentangy/Scioto Ecosystem Corridor

Tour a designated scenic river focusing on natural history, current restoration initiatives and future/planned revitalization efforts of this urban river corridor in Columbus, Ohio. The tour will begin at the 20-ha (50-acre) Wilma H. Schiermemer Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, a higher-education research and teaching, created and restored wetland complex and Ramsar Wetland of International Importance on the campus of The Ohio State University. Then a lunch on campus will include a presentation of a dam removal on the Olentangy River and future revitalization plans for the river. We will then visit the Grange Insurance Audubon Center, a K—12 river and wetland education center on a brown field redevelopment site on the Scioto River in Columbus.
